Equine Reiki Dear
Alison I
read your article on the web. I have done Reiki for a number of years, but never
professionally. I don’t even do much on people other than send them energy
when I feel they need it. Why I am writing to you, is that I fell in love with a
gelding 6 months ago and bought him very much on the spur of the moment. He has
since bucked me off twice (he is 17hh), and I have always felt that both
instances were not caused by him being horrible or mean to me but fear induced
and now I realise pain induced as well. I had a message therapist massage him
today and he has had some injury to his back as those muscles are very tender.
We both realised that this is the cause of much of his unhappiness under saddle.
If you Help me in hand placements for horses it would be great, as I am not sure
as I only human placement where the horse equivalent placements would be. I
would very much like to give him Reiki to supplement the massage and acupuncture
we are going to start with him. I would appreciate any help with this as we
don’t seem to have Equestrian Reiki people in the area I live. (Sydney
Australia) I
look forward to your reply With
much love, light and laughter Ruth

My big horse’s name is Mr Bojangles, as he can sure dance. Bo is what he is
usually called. From:
Alison Sandford [mailto:alison@sandfordtherapies.co.uk] thank
you for your e-mail. I took the liberty of tuning into Bo for myself to see what
I could pick up. Sometimes being completely unattached to the situation can give
more clarity. First
of all I have to say I very much like the feel of Bo. A gently giant, with a bit
of a sense of humour would some him up, I think. As for his physiological
problems, it seems to me that he has got himself in a bit of a tangle. I am
going to give you the things that I felt in the order that they occurred to me.
They may make more sense to you than me. Head
and upper neck. pressure across the forehead and into the right side.
constriction at about C2/3 . If your massage therapist is coming back she may
find this helpful. Aching
in low back, muscular around L4/5. Constriction
behind shoulders. It may be a good idea to get your saddler to check the fitting
of his saddle, particularly around the forks. If you have been doing a fair
amount of work with him or his condition has improved since you got him the
could well be a need for adjustment. Once this is done then tune into the saddle
yourself and give it some Reiki. Note how it makes you feel. If your tumble has
knocked your confidence then you could well find that anxiety stored in the
saddle. Similarly with Bo if he sees his work as traumatic he could well be
storing that energy in the saddle. You see how very quickly the saddle can
become a focal point for negative responses between horse and rider. Next
is the genitalia. I know he has been gelded but he may well have issues
surrounding it. What is he like around mares and other geldings? Does he have
his own little hareem that he will defend from the other boys? This kind of fits
in with the muscular stuff around the sacral area. Throat
felt constricted he is desperately trying to communicate. Tune into him while
you are sitting in meditation and ask him what he would like you to know. Don't
worry if it takes a few attempts to he will be a bit surprised that you are
trying to make contact but when he gets the idea he will have a lot to say. Right
buttock. This could be the cause of your bucking because it was quite a sharp
"tweak" Kind of like when you just catch something when you move in a
certain way. There
is a sadness for him, the loss of a companion, I feel and I also feel that at
some point there has been quite a lack of food for him. The left lower hind came
up but I feel that this is a compensation for the right buttock. Please
check the saddle. As
for hand positions - well I think it is easiest if I tell you the positions of
the chakras first. Base is at the dock sacral is at the point of croup, solar
plexus is at the back end of where that saddle sits. Heart is just behind the
withers, brachial major is just in front of the withers and in the dip where the
neck meets the shoulders. Throat is at the top of the neck just behind the poll.
Third eye is in the centre of the forehead just above the level of the eyes and
crow comes through the poll. work
your way around the whole body and try to be as intuitive as possible about
where and in what order you place your hands. Please
let me know if you can relate to any of this. I always welcome feed-back. All
light, all peace Alison. 3. Thank
you so much for your reply. You were very quick. I must say that you have Bo
smack on the button. I have only been able to see him once since I emailed you
and was able to spend about a half hour with him. I am sending him Reiki though
and my time with him seems very much more relaxed and he seems a lot more
comfortable – as if to say, okay I am happy now that we are starting to
communicate. You
have very accurately pinpointed the areas along his spine that he is sore. The
off fore shoulder has also been an issue. Bo was separated from a friend when I
bought him, and he gets very closely attached to others in the paddock. He has a
few geldings and mares that look up to him. He even gets possessive (puts his
ears back at them as if to say, back off I’m getting the attention over here)
of me when the other horses come near us in the paddock when I’m putting him
back. He also recently lost another good friend who left the stables, so the
poor man has had a few changes of friends in the last 6 months. He now has
another friend which is good. The
saddle – well there is a history of saddle, but I think it is more mine. I had
a wonderful Kieffer saddle, which I sold very regretfully. I didn’t have a
horse for quite a while and my husband really wanted a video camera, so I sold
it to buy him the camera which I regretted straight away. It wasn’t a “fully
giving gift at all” and so when I bought Bo (which was a bit of a shock to my
husband) I couldn’t afford the same standard of saddle. I have bought a
synthetic dressage saddle, but an excellent make, and it does fit him well. (But
I have been missing my Kieffer) The saddle Could be better at the shoulder in
front but doesn’t stop the movement. I will be using a extra saddle blanket,
but it is air pumped – ie as you ride it pumps up or something to that effect.
So the saddle is me and probably Bo is feeling it too, and it is all coming
together. I will release all that negative energy. I have given Bo a weeks rest
since the massage, and will slowly get him going again will light lunging prior
to riding so assist in warming him up. I am positive all the Reiki and massage
will work. I will definitely take your advise and start communicating with him. I
will let you know how it is going and thanks assisting – I feel so much more
positive about our relationship. I am so glad that I did go with my instincts
when I saw him the first time, and I was right about him. For a while I had
myself worried that I was wrong about him, and the others were right. With
love, light and laughter |
