I t deals with all aspects of life – physical, mental and spiritual – it treats a person holistically and does not separate them into a sum of parts. Methods used are massage, yoga and meditation

Ayurvedic Medicine divides people into 3 main types. See which one most closely relates to how you see yourself

Vatha – The driving force of the body. Dominated by nervous system and all forms of electrical and magnetic energy circulating in the body.

Pitha – The burning system of the body. Dominated by the metabolism/digestive system.

These people are ambitious, competitive, and intelligent, have good concentration, are enterprising and make good leaders but may be irritable and surly when stressed. They are of average build, the hair is thin and silky. Skin is soft, reddish, yellowish or fair. Prone to dehydration, broken capillaries and allergies. Sleeps well, cannot tolerate excessive sunlight or heat.

Kapha – Water related elements of the body. Dominated by mucus membranes moisture, fat, lymphatic system.

These people are generally happy, healthy, peaceful and earthy. They are usually affectionate and tolerant but can tend towards being emotionally possessive. They are physically thick set, well developed and often overweight. They are also strong and have high endurance; speaking and moving slowly. The hair is often thick, soft and wavy. They have a regular appetite and eat slowly. They crave pungent, bitter and astringent foods. They sleep well. Skin is lustrous and oily but may blemish easily.

A major part of the system is the aura and Chakras.

  Massage through History

Can be traced back over 5000 years. All of the great civilizations have reported the beneficial effects of massage both for the ailing body and mind. The word itself is derived from the Arabic word Mas H meaning to press softly. In Europe it lost its foothold in the medical profession in the middle ages when the physical world was regarded with contempt. Christianity placed the importance on the spiritual self at the expense of physical well being.

During the Renaissance there was a renewed interest in physical health. Much of the knowledge returned from the East where Christianity had not supplanted the traditional medical systems. The Medical Profession regained its prestige and could once again use the holistic approach to health-care.

IHM uses a number of classical and unique massage techniques.

Covers upper part of back, shoulders neck, upper arms, ears and face. Finishes with balancing of Chakras.
